Durian is an important agriculture product for many South East Asia countries.  Durian from different geological locations has unique flavor and texture and price could varies significantly.  It is difficult to predict Durian’s origin, flavor or texture from visual inspection.  Today most durian sold in a plastic package for ease of transportation and storage (Fig 1).  In order to conduct an authentication assessment, the NIR sensor becomes a suitable alternative method. The Mega Crystal’s handheld offers rapid measurement of Durian’s origin or species via non-contact NIR spectrum.  By pointing the sensor gun at the durian’s plastic package, the unique NIR light penetrates the plastic package and determines the durian composition.  Through chemometric data analysis, the corrected durian species is display on the mobile phone.  Optional software upgrade package allows nutrition such as fat, brix level, water, or freshness to be measured accurately.  Once tested, the result is displayed on the user’s mobile phone and uploaded to the user’s cloud platform for further analysis.  This is an ideal equipment for farmers, food delivery services, packaging houses as well as everyday consumers.  Mobile app and cloud databases are available for customization.  

This handheld is customizable to offer freshness (TVB-N) protein or fat % of meats, or mature status of aged meat or cheese, grain protein, or authenticity of medicine.  Both ODM and OEM are welcome.
